LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis announced her endorsement of Jackie Goldberg for LAUSD Board of Education District 5.
“Jackie Goldberg has my support because she truly cares about meeting community needs and making sure no child slips through cracks,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis. “Throughout her career, she’s made incredible strides for the people of Los Angeles including fighting for the first living wage and ensuring support for bilingual and dual language programs. With her election to the Board, all children in the 5th District will have an advocate who puts them first.”
Solis, who represents part of Board District 5, and Goldberg have long worked together to ensure all communities in Los Angeles have a voice.
“I am pleased that Supervisor Solis has endorsed me to represent the residents, parents, students and teachers of Northeast and Southeast Los Angeles,” Goldberg said. “We are assembling a strong team to ensure our schools are properly funded. Educators’ courageous strike cast a bright light on public education in Los Angeles and demonstrated deep support for our schools. There is urgency to act now to give students and teachers the resources they need and as a school board member I know how to take immediate action.”
Solis joins a long list of recognized leaders in education and the community who have endorsed Jackie including State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, U.S. Rep Karen Bass, LAUSD Board Members Dr. George McKenna III and Scott Schmerelson, State Sens. Maria Elena Durazo and Holly Mitchell, Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, District 5 parents, and educators and their union, UTLA.
A former teacher and former member of the LAUSD Board, L.A. City Council, and State Assembly, Jackie Goldberg has more than 35 years of experience as a champion for students and public schools. She plans to use her experience to hit the ground running, champion educational equity, and give a voice to District 5’s underrepresented communities.
